Free festival showcases church heritage and architecture from Wolds to coast
Two weekends to admire the history and architecture of Lincolnshire Wolds’ churches
Unique architecture and heritage, a host of stories and a wonderful welcome await visitors to this year’s Wolds and Coast Churches Festival.

Taking place over the first two weekends in September, more than 80 churches will be throwing open their doors as part of the event to reveal the stories within. Some chart the rise and fall of local families, while others have connections to significant people who have made their mark on the world.
Dianne Tuckett, one of the group of volunteers who organise the event said: “Churches are at the heart of our communities and are something to be celebrated. So, lift the latch, open the door and step inside to discover the stories they can tell.”

The first weekend – September 5 and 6 – featured Spilsby and surrounding villages, as well as Horncastle and surrounding villages, while the second weekend – September 12 and 13 - focuses on villages in the Alford area and the Louth area.
A number of the churches will be staging activities to whet visitors’ appetites and many will have refreshments available, from a simple coffee and cake to full blown lunches.

The printed guide is available from local libraries, participating churches and tourist information points, while on the website – www.lincswoldsandcoastchurches.org – information can be found of other churches and late changes.
Dianne said: “The festival is only possible thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time to open the churches, serve refreshments and welcome the visitors."
