Gainsborough nursery worker runs a marathon, raising £2,000 to provide enrichment opportunities for pupils
A nursery playworker at Benjamin Adlard Primary School in Gainsborough, part of Anthem Schools Trust, who ran the Gainsborough Marathon Challenge, has raised an impressive £2,000 for pupils.
Miss Kay Pluckwell ran the Gainsborough Marathon Challenge, a full marathon‑length route around the town, in 3 hours 45 mins - despite the heat! - raising £2,000 for Anthem Aspire.
Anthem Aspire is a programme run by the school’s trust that creates life-changing opportunities for children to engage in sport, literature, music and the great outdoors through four flagship projects.
The aim of Anthem Aspire is to go beyond classroom learning and focus on the whole child, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to give them experiences that enhance their personal development.
Earlier this year, the Anthem Aspire programme recently funded a group of Year 5 pupils from Benjamin Adlard to take part in a chance-of-a-lifetime Outward Bound trip to Ogwen Cottage in Wales.
Kay Pluckwell said: “Completing the marathon was an unforgettable experience and I’m incredibly proud to have crossed the finish line knowing that every step helped raise money for our pupils through the Anthem Aspire.
“I am delighted that the money raised will help create opportunities and experiences that can make a real difference to children’s lives.
“The support from my colleagues, families, friends and the wider community kept me going every step of the way and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me.”
Luke Lovelidge, headteacher at Benjamin Adlard Primary School, said: “We are so proud of Miss Pluckwell for successfully completing the Gainsborough marathon and raising £2,000 for the Anthem Aspire programme.
“The money raised will help our school and trust continue to provide enriching opportunities and experiences for pupils, ensuring every child has the chance to thrive and create lasting memories.
“We would also like to thank everyone who supported Miss Pluckwell so generously.”
