The Sessions House was first allocated £1.006 million in August 2025 as part of the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund programme which allowed repairs to the roofs, conservation to the windows and some high-level brick works.

Historic England granted an additional £28,500 to the project in March 2026 for the removal of the existing auditorium ceiling under the main roof, whilst retaining and storing some of the decorative features, to be reinstalled when the new ceiling is built. The ceiling work was approved by East Lindsey District Council at planning committee in early February this year.

Historic England's Heritage at Risk Capital Fund programme supports the conservation and regeneration of at-risk heritage assets across the country, and restoring local heritage to ensure it can be enjoyed for many generations to come.

The grant was awarded in addition to the £4.929 million of UK Government funding already secured to ensure the further transformation of this important cultural asset, though a partnership between East Lindsey District Council and Spilsby Sessions House Charity.

The Government funding will allow the building to reopen for cultural and art uses, as well as to have a wider daytime use as a community space.

Works will continue on the building as we work towards creating a community space for not just residents of Spilsby but for the wider community.

Councillor Graham Marsh, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Leisure and Culture, and Carbon Reduction at East Lindsey District Council said: “The completion of these vital Heritage at Risk works marks a major step forward in securing the future of Spilsby Sessions House. This building is an important part of our cultural identity, and the investment from Historic England and the UK Government ensures it can once again serve as a vibrant space for arts, culture and community life.

“We’re proud to be working in partnership with Spilsby Sessions House Charity to bring this landmark back into use for generations to come.”

Louise Brennan, Regional Director, Historic England said, “The funding from Historic England has enabled vital repairs to the building’s fabric, alongside careful conservation work that protects its historic character.

“Projects like this demonstrate how targeted investment through the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund can help unlock the potential of historic places, supporting their return to active use and ensuring they continue to serve their communities for generations to come.”

Kevin Lockyer, Chair of Trustees at Spilsby Sessions House Charity said: "We are deeply grateful to Historic England for their support and investment and continue to work hard in partnership with East Lindsey District Council to bring this important cultural asset to Spilsby.”
