Open day giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about cancer treatment and support services

The Oncology Treatment Centre at Lincoln County Hospital will once again open its doors to the public this November, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about cancer treatment and support services provided by United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (ULTH).

Members of the public are invited to attend the open day on Saturday 7 November between 9.30am and 12pm, to meet the teams who deliver radiotherapy for patients across Lincolnshire.

Visitors will have the chance to explore the department, meet specialist staff, view treatment areas and learn more about the care and support available to people affected by cancer. Staff from the service will be on hand throughout the morning to answer questions and provide information about the treatments delivered at the centre.

The event is also an opportunity for patients, families and carers to familiarise themselves with the environment, helping to ease concerns ahead of future appointments and treatment.

Alongside tours of the department, there will be information stands from charities supporting people living with cancer and opportunities to find out more about careers in oncology, radiotherapy and wider cancer services.

Helen Sutton, Macmillan Specialist Radiographer at ULTH, said:

"The open day is a fantastic opportunity for people to learn more about the cancer services we provide, meet the teams and see first-hand the environment where patients receive treatment and support.

"We know that starting cancer treatment can feel overwhelming, so we would encourage anyone who is due to begin treatment, as well as their families and carers, to come along, look around the department and ask any questions they may have. We hope it will help people feel more informed and reassured about what to expect.

"The event is also ideal for anyone interested in healthcare careers or for those who simply want to understand more about the vital work carried out by our radiotherapy teams. We look forward to welcoming visitors and showcasing the excellent care provided across our service.”
