Lincolnshire NHS walkers gear up for charity challenge

Seventy dedicated Lincolnshire NHS staff have signed up to take on the Edale Skyline Walking Challenge, next month, raising funds for Lincolnshire NHS Charity.

Colleagues from Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) and Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) will walk the 21-mile uphill endurance trek together.

The Edale Skyline Challenge is a demanding, circular hiking route of approximately 20-22 miles in the Peak District, following the high-level skyline around the Edale Valley. The challenge, which involves significant ascent and navigation over challenging terrain like bogs and rocky paths, takes participants over iconic summits such as Kinder Scout, Mam Tor, and the Great Ridge, offering stunning valley views. It is known as a tough test of stamina and requires strong navigation skills and appropriate training.

Jade Shucksmith, a Mental Health Practitioner at LPFT, is one of the walkers looking forward to the challenge, on Saturday 9 May 2026.

Jade from Wragby said: “I’m doing the challenge as NHS staff are amazing and often give their own time to help others. Without them we would have no NHS.”

Jade and her husband Stuart are doing the walk, as she aims to become fitter and looks forward to the spectacular views- especially from the top of Mam Tor.

The team aim to raise £5,000 to support NHS teams, patients and families across Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire NHS Charity provides the little extras that make a big difference, such as comfort packs to support patients and their families during the difficult end-of-life period and funding a therapy dog for patients on Welland Ward at Johnson Community Hospital in Spalding.

Rachel Mooney is a CAMHS Crisis Enhanced Treatment Team Practitioner at LPFT. She supports young people in acute mental health crisis and is doing the challenge alongside her colleagues.

Rachel is looking forward to the Edale Skyline as her next challenge, on the back of the Yorkshire Three Peaks and a Tough Mudder event.

She said: “I am keen to continue my support for Lincolnshire NHS Charity whilst taking on personal challenges such as the Edale Skyline.

“When I was training for the Yorkshire Three Peaks, I was a little obsessed with the Edale Skyline, as my fellow walking buddies will agree!

“I am grateful to the charity putting such great events together- where we can get fit, get outdoors and raise valuable funds for the NHS.”

Ben Petts, Interim Charity Manger at Lincolnshire NHS Charity said: "We are thrilled to be putting this event on during the 30th birthday of our charity.

“We are grateful to all the walkers taking part in the challenge in May and wish them the best of luck.”
