Local bus operator celebrates as half a million people take the “Seaside Special" to Skegness

A major local bus operator is celebrating after it was revealed that half a million people have used one of its services to get to all the fun and excitement of the local seaside.

Stagecoach East Midlands has announced that over 500,000 people have taken its Service 56 from Lincoln to Skegness – popularly known as “The Seaside Special” - over the past year.

This year, due to popular demand, an additional trip, from Lincoln, was added each morning, to allow local people to get away on day-trips.

Service 56, part of the Interconnect Network, goes from Lincoln Central Bus Station to the hospital and then via Sudbrooke, Langworth, Wragby, Horncastle, Hagworthingham, Spilsby, Partney and Burgh le Marsh before arriving at Skegness.

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “During all the sunny weather this Summer, nothing beats the British seaside as a place of fun and excitement for all the family. It’s a great way to keep cool and soak up the atmosphere.

“And we are very lucky that Skegness – one of the most famous of our seaside destinations – is so easy and great value to get to. So, why not pack up your bucket and spade and take the family on a trip that they will never forget?

“Leave the car at home and avoid the traffic jams, the stress and cost of parking – particularly as under-16s can travel for free, throughout August, under the government scheme, and Single fares for adults are just £3.

“So, let our professional drivers get you to the beach in ease and comfort. Indeed, for many people, the bus journey is a really exciting part of the day!

Once at the seaside, visitors can enjoy the famous Skegness Seasiders – 12 open-top, hop-on hop-off buses that let you visit everything from the Boating Lake, past the Pier, through to Fantasy Island, Hardy's Animal Farm and all the way to Chapel St Leonards.
