Record-breaking Louth Academy achievements celebrated
GCSE results at record-breaking levels celebrated at ceremony
Highest-ever results were celebrated by students, families and staff at Louth Academy’s annual awards evening.
While the summer’s GCSE results were at record-breaking levels, the evening also provided an opportunity to showcase children’s talents outside of the classroom.
The academy’s choir opened the event at the town’s Riverhead Theatre and talented musicians played at intervals, delighting a packed auditorium.

Guest of honour was Louth Town Council Mayor Coun Karen Parsons and former Principal Joe Hermiston presented some of the awards.
He switched during the summer to become Principal at Waltham Toll Bar Academy also, like Louth, part of Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust.

New Principal Jake Bailey, previously at the Trust’s Somercotes Academy, welcomed everybody to the event.
“We are proud to give 11–16-year-olds an aspirational learning environment which enables them to achieve beyond expectations,” he said.
“This year, we achieved our highest-ever examination results, performing significantly above the national average.”

The Government’s measure of success across eight GCSE subjects, Attainment 8, was 44.66, the seventh successive year that Louth Academy has seen this figure rise.
The Academy also achieved its highest ever attainment 8 score for disadvantaged students as it continues to perform significantly above national averages in this area.
Grades 9-4 were achieved by 67.5% of students in English Language, a 2% increase, while the number achieving the stronger 9–5 pass rose by 6.3%.
In Maths 67.5% of students achieved grades 9-4, more than 10% higher than the national pass rate. In Combined Science, the 9–4 pass rate increased by 11%.

Mr Bailey said the academy was rooted in excellent teaching, pastoral care, trips and outstanding enrichment opportunities.
“We provide students with the building blocks they need to become global citizens and proud members of their local community.
Louth Academy students enjoy an ambitious, broad and balanced curriculum, designed to be flexible, allowing for personalised learning.
It is not confined to the classroom and students are given outstanding enrichment to aid their educational experience.”
Chair of Governors Philip Bond congratulated all the award winners and thanked staff who had made the record-breaking year possible.
