School children hop into Easter with Coningsby care home residents

Residents at Toray Pines Care Home in Coningsby were treated to an “egg-stra” special day this week, as young visitors from Coningsby St Michael’s Church of England School brought Easter fun to the home.

Led by class teacher, Miss Philips, 27 egg-citable four- and five-year-olds, from Reception, also known as Mice Class, put their egg-hunting skills to the test ahead of the Easter weekend.

The children took part in an Easter egg hunt around the care home’s gardens, supported by staff and residents who joined in the fun and helped guide the young explorers.

Pupil, four-year-old Arthur, said, “I found all the eggs and I really enjoyed the cake.”

Following the hunt, the children spent one-on-one time with residents, getting creative with Easter-themed crafts. Together, they made decorations in preparation for the upcoming celebrations.

74-year-old resident, Pam Mallet said, “Seeing the children running through the garden finding all the eggs was just so lovely, we loved hearing their giggles fill the home.”

Reception teacher, Miss Philips added, “We had a marvellous time at the home; the kids really enjoyed themselves running around the garden. You could tell by the smile on their faces how much they gained from the experience  – thank you so much for having us.”

Lifestyle Co-ordinator Sophie Lamming said, “Intergenerational activities like this are so important, as they help connect our residents with the local community and bring so much joy to everyone involved. Seeing the smiles on both the children’s and residents’ faces has been truly special.

“Events like this play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing of our residents. We know first- hand that community engagement helps reduce feelings of isolation, encourages social interaction, and creates a sense of belonging — all of which are essential for maintaining a high quality of life and something that is really important to everyone at Toray Pines.”
