To mark World Immunization Week, Louth Rotary will be in the lobby of the Northgate Co-op on Saturday, 2nd May.

World Immunization Week is marked annually from April 24–30, and highlights the collective action needed to promote vaccine use to protect people of all ages against diseases. The campaign, led by the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizes that vaccines are a successful and cost-effective health intervention.

In Louth Rotary we raise funds to help with the immunization programme aimed at eradicating the disease of Polio world-wide.

In a time when many have forgotten the threat of infectious diseases like polio, it is good to remind ourselves that polio anywhere is a threat everywhere.

The polio vaccine is one of the greatest public health achievements of our time, protecting against a paralyzing and potentially life-threatening virus that once struck fear in the hearts of parents prior to the advent of the vaccine in 1955.

Since 1988, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide, saving more than 20 million people from paralysis.

To mark World Immunization Week, Louth Rotary will be in the lobby of the Northgate Co-op on Saturday, 2nd May selling crocus pins the proceeds of which will go directly to the Rotary Foundation’s ‘End Polio Now’ campaign.
