Reporter, NationalWorld
Hiyah Zaidi is a trainee reporter with NationalWorld.com after completing her apprenticeship to gain her NCTJ diploma. She now works as a features writer with a focus on culture and society and holds an interest in world news, as well as diversity, representation and culture - in particular how it embeds into the trends we see forming around us. Her articles have ranged in topics from the importance of cultural tattoos, how FinTok has improved financial literacy for Gen Z and the psychology behind being fascinated with crime dramas. She speaks to experts and the public about how certain patterns influence a new way of thinking, how different generations are impacted by the same issues and how this slots into our evolving society - plus she has dabbled in the occasional article on religious and cultural events, TV (speaking to Jane Horrocks!), plants, and an expose on how Shanghai’s covid rules led to draconian quarantine camps. Previously, she has worked as a freelance journalist with bylines in Vice, Bustle and HuffPost UK. You can catch her on Twitter @hiyahzaidi or on Instagram @hiyah_z probably subtweeting about the latest international film she’s watched and practising her Spanish very badly. All with a cup of tea in hand.
