An 'egg-cellent' year of growth for Lincolnshire egg firm's hen 'welfare' brand
A family egg business is celebrating national growth after its ‘welfare’ eggs brand reached shelves across 130 Asda stores in just one year.
Better Eggs, from family-owned L.J. Fairburn & Son of Alford, has grown from 43 to 130 Asda stores since launching in September 2025.
The firm has been farming in Lincolnshire since 1951.
"Better Eggs builds on that experience with a focus on welfare, provenance and taste, selling more than 2.1 million eggs in less than a year,” a spokesperson for the firm said.

“Behind that growth is a supply chain rooted in Lincolnshire. The family business grows grain locally and mills its own feed, with the Better Eggs supply chain centred within approximately 25 miles of its headquarters. As the brand reaches more shoppers, local farming, jobs and investment remain at its heart.
“The hens that produce Better Eggs are RSPCA Assured and given 10% more space than standard free-range requirements, with around eight hens per square metre compared with nine.”
Better Eggs has also earned national recognition. Grocery industry publication The Grocer named it Top Launch 2025 in eggs, and the brand has been recognised by the Great Taste Awards and Great British Food Awards.
Henry O’Connor, Creator of Better Eggs said: “I wanted to create an egg brand people would notice, understand and choose. Dan and I have built Better Eggs together with the team, combining a new idea with generations of farming experience.

“Seeing the pack on the shelf was special. Now we want Better Eggs to become a brand people look for, not just one they happen to pick up.”
Daniel Fairburn, Chief Executive of L.J. Fairburn & Son said: “Our history matters, but so does what we build next. I see Better Eggs as an opportunity to build a national brand around the farming, people and standards at the heart of this business.
“We grow the grain, mill the feed and care for the hens. That work deserves to mean something to the person choosing a box of eggs. Better Eggs is about making that connection. We want to build something that lasts, with its growth supporting continued investment in our farms, our people and our future here in Lincolnshire.”
