Nostalgic event to celebrate 40 years of Sutton on Sea care home

A highly respected care home in Sutton on Sea is to hold a special, nostalgic event to mark its 40th birthday this year.

Doulton Court Lodge, on Alford Road, was opened in 1986 by well-known former actor and comedian Terry Scott (1927-1994), who starred in many ‘Carry On’ films and was also famous for his partnership with June Whitfield in the BBC TV sitcom, ‘Terry And June’.

It sits on a site that originally housed a Wesleyan chapel and then became a mineral water factory. But the building was purposely-built as a care home and is still thriving, providing accommodation for 41 residents of all ages who need nursing or personal care.

Over the years, Doulton Court Lodge has seen many owners and staff members come and go, and it is hoped to capture a host of memories at the 40th anniversary event, which is to take place at the home on Sunday, September 27 from 10 am.

A spokesperson said: “The event, which will include an exhibition, will celebrate 40 years of caring for the community at Doulton Court.

"Come and visit to learn about the history of the home and hear about residents' stories and memories.”

Doulton Court Lodge is so well-thought-of that it received a rating of ‘Good’, both overall and in all individual categories, after its latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in April.

A spokesperson for owners Doulton Care Ltd says: “We offer high-quality residential and nursing care in a warm and welcoming environment.
