Gainsborough Trinity boss looks at bigger picture after fine October

A late Bamber Bridge equaliser left Gainsborough Trinity frustrated after Saturday's 1-1 draw.

But after a busy and rewarding October, boss Russ Wilcox said it was important to look at the bigger picture.

“It was a little disappointing on Saturday, but credit to them,” said Wilcox.

“They had a new manager going in there and getting them organised, and I think he's only had one session.

“When you get your noses in front you are always disappointed that you don't win the game.

“However, the bigger picture is that we took 16 points from 21 in October, which was a fantastic return.

“So you always have to look at the bigger picture and stay positive.

“Today we weren't at our best, but you have to give them credit.

“They are second bottom of the league so everyone turns up thinking it's going to be a four or five nil game. But that is not this league.

“Anybody can beat anybody on any given day, and I think that showed today.

“We had the best chances. But we couldn't quite put the game to bed. That's football and we move on to Saturday.”

Bamber Bridge levelled with just six minutes left and Wilcox said: “It was a good finish from the lad, but if it goes wide everyone would have gone home happy.

“You can pick bits out of games, positives and negatives, and I am sure people will pick the negatives out of this one as we were 1-0 up at home to a team that's second bottom.

“It's always easy to criticise when you don't get the result you want, but we move on. It's another point and that's better than none.

“I am looking at the bigger picture and the squad we've put together now

“You look at the quality on the bench – anyone can start now. It gives me headaches and it's a good place to be. That's why we are getting results.”

November looks much less hectic than October and Wilcox said: “It is a strange one looking at the schedule now as we are usually in cups. So we can have a bit of recovery time now and get a bit more work into the lads as well.

“Hopefully we may have a fully fit squad to choose from when we go to Warrington Rylands on Saturday, which will be a really tough game.”
