Spilsby students display artwork in Lincoln exhibition
KEVI students display art work at professional exhibition in Lincoln
Artistic students from King Edward VI Academy in Spilsby have taken part in an exhibition about the history of denim.
Held at the Barbican Creative Hub in Lincoln, the exhibition celebrated five years of Project Fashion Fixed - a creative education initiative founded by artist Kerry Gibson, which uses clothing to explore sustainability, people and the planet, while giving young people opportunities to get involved and have their voices heard.
Pupils from KEVI, part of the David Ross Education Trust , took part in creative activities, including weaving, and were able to see their own work displayed as part of a professional exhibition. This art display also covered the UN Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging visitors to consider sustainability, consumption and the choices people make about the clothes they wear.

Artist and educator Kerry Gibson said: “It was a real pleasure working with the students from KEVI. Through our workshop, we explored the stories behind our clothes, from the materials they are made from, to the people involved and the impact our choices have on the world around us.
“The students brought their own ideas, questions and creativity to the sessions, and it was wonderful to see their work become part of the exhibition.
“Seeing their ideas displayed alongside the work of artists and other contributors in a public exhibition is something really special, and I hope it's an experience they'll feel proud of.”

Mark Wilkinson, Principal at KEVI said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see how their creativity and ideas are valued beyond the classroom, whilst contributing to something real and visible within our local community.
“We are incredibly proud of our pupils, they brought curiosity and interesting ideas to this project, which is a brilliant example of extending learning beyond the classroom. I am delighted that we are able to give our young people these kinds of opportunities to make a genuine contribution in the community.”
