Home care service for elderly in Woodhall Spa gets thumbs-up from watchdog
A service based in Woodhall Spa that provides personal care for the elderly in their own homes has been given the thumbs-up by a national watchdog.
The Russell Green Care Home is responsible not only for its Stanhope Avenue establishment for residents but also runs a domiciliary support service for over-65s with dementia or physical disabilities who need nursing or personal care.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) monitored this side of the business during July and have now delivered their verdict, awarding a rating of ‘Good’, both overall and in all five individual categories, headed safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The CQC heard that the elderly clients “felt safe, well supported and valued by the staff providing their care”.
"They described staff as kind, friendly and respectful and said they were treated with dignity,” the inspectors’ report said.
“People received personalised care that reflected their wishes and helped them remain independent and safe within their own homes. Staff understood their choices and respected their needs.”
One client told the inspectors: “I can’t fault them or the care they provide. I can go to them and ask anything, and they respond to me.”
Relatives were also positive about the service, praising staff for being caring, communicating well and “responding appropriately when concerns were raised”.
One relative told inspectors: “They do everything well. The staff are kind, considerate and respectful, and we are 100 per cent satisfied.”
The Russell Green service is provided by Bhandal Care Group Ltd, which is based at the Woodhall Spa home.
The CQC found that staff had received full training and knew their clients well, supporting them to keep on top of their general health and wellbeing.
The report went on: "The clients felt reassured by the attention staff paid them and spoke positively about the encouragement they received to maintain their health, nutrition and independence.
“Care plans and risk assessments were detailed and regularly reviewed.
"The service worked well with external professionals to provide joined-up care. And people were encouraged to share feedback, which was used to improve the service.
"There was a positive and open culture across the service. Staff felt valued, supported and able to speak up.”
