Dinosaurs to join Santa at eagerly-awaited Mablethorpe Christmas Market

The countdown is on to one of the most eagerly awaited highlights of the festive season in Mablethorpe.

It’s the annual Mablethorpe Christmas Market, which is all set to take place on High Street on Saturday, December 6, from 10 am to 3 pm.

The star attraction at this year’s family event is an appearance by life-sized dinosaurs from the Bristol-based entertainment company, Raptors World.

Children will get the chance to meet the dinosaurs as they parade through the town, and then they can visit Santa’s grotto to pick up a free Christmas present.

As usual, High Street will be lined by a variety of craft stalls, featuring traders selling a host of unique festive gifts.

Weather permitting, there will also be live entertainment, starring local choirs and Skegness Silver Band, plus a snow globe, a children’s playground, ice skating, free fairground rides, other activities and live music.

The event, which is free to attend, has been organised by Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council and huge crowds are expected to flock to the town, also supporting local shops and businesses.

Last year, almost 2,000 people backed the Christmas market, even though high winds and heavy rain were forecast for the area.

As it happened, there were only a couple of showers, but the mayor of Mablethorpe at the time, Coun Claire Arnold, praised everyone for defiantly pulling together.

She said: “The market is a fundamental part of the Christmas period in Mablethorpe. It was lovely and so well supported.

"The smiles on the faces of excited children as they got to see Santa made it all worthwhile. I am so proud to be a part of this town.”

Before the Mablethorpe market, two other Christmas events take place in the area this coming weekend.

On Saturday (November 29), from 1 pm to 7 pm, a Christmas Extravaganza on Market Place in Alford is sure to prove popular.

And on Sunday (November 30), Louth town centre hosts a Victorian Christmas Market from 10 am to 4 pm.

Organised by the Louth Town Action Group, this market will feature more than 80 stalls, food and drink and all-day entertainment for the whole family.

A group spokesperson said: “We invite you to step back in time for a seasonal event full of fun for all.”
