Cause of large fire near Boston given as accidental; fire service makes safety plea

The cause of a large fire near Boston yesterday (Monday, July 13) has been given as accidental.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched eight appliances to the incident – a workshop, garage and field fire – in Asperton Road, Wigtoft.

These were supported by an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, a high volume pump, and a hose layer.

The fire service was alerted to the outbreak shortly after 4pm.

Speaking today, a spokesman said: “Crews extinguished the blaze and a subsequent fire investigation concluded that the cause was accidental from a controlled burn left unattended.”

“Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue urge residents not to burn items in these dry conditions, the risk of fires spreading and growing out of control is significantly heightened,” they added.

There have been no reports of injuries, the spokesman said.
