Police are appealing for information in relation to a ‘very distressing incident’ near Boston, in which an empty pushchair was reportedly rolled into the path of a lorry, leading to a collision between the two.

The incident was reported to Lincolnshire Police on Monday (January 5) at about 12.20pm.

It was said a woman appeared to let go of a pushchair along the A16, at the junction of Middlegate Road West, Kirton.

The pushchair would go on to collide with an oncoming lorry, police said.

A spokesman for the force said: “As the buggy was struck ‘a white or pink bundle’ was seen to fly up into the air, initially believed to be a baby. After significant police, drone, and ambulance attendance, extensive searches confirmed that no baby appeared to be in the buggy and no pushchair was left at the scene.”

Police say they have identified the driver of the lorry and spoken with him, but are now keen to speak with the woman.

She is described as being in her 20s and is said to have been wearing a three-quarter-length brown jacket and trousers.

It is believed she was walking along Middlegate Road West, Kirton, and made as if to cross the A16 to Middlegate Road East, toward Frampton.

“Officers have conducted extensive house-to-house, CCTV, and dashcam enquiries,” the spokesman continued. “We are now reaching out to our community to see if anyone remembers this woman, recognises the description and may have seen her with an empty pushchair in the time leading up to the collision.

“This was naturally a very distressing incident for those involved and we would like to identify and speak with the woman concerned to make sure that she is okay as we are concerned for her welfare.

“If you have not yet spoken to officers and believe you may have information that could help our investigation, please get in touch.”

Anyone who can help the investigation, is asked to: call 101, quoting incident 209 of January 5; email [email protected], putting the same information in the subject line; or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously

In an emergency, the advice is to call 999.
