Notts: Lay member roles on safeguarding children boards

The successful candidates will have an awareness of safeguarding issues affecting children and young people, a knowledge of local community networks and an understanding of equality issues.

The NSCB / NCSCB are multi-agency independent boards, which agree how services and professionals in the area should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, and scrutinise the effectiveness of this work.

The candidates will need to have the confidence to support and challenge agencies on the way they work and an ability to constructively challenge the views and assumptions of senior professionals.

Chris Few, chair of the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board, said: “The lay members will bring a community perspective to and support greater public understanding of safeguarding, as well as strengthening the board’s independent scrutiny role. I very much look forward to working with them.”
