Obituary - Reginald Frank Lovelock MBE

A Thanksgiving Service to celebrate the life of Reginald Frank Lovelock MBE was held at St Andrew's Church, Billingborough on Tuesday, November 8.

He died in Billingborough on October 20, aged 91.

Mr Lovelock was married to Joyce for 62 years and leaves children Hilary and Claire, grandchildren Lucy and Alice and brother Brian.

Aged 19 he contracted polio and lost the use of his right arm. Having taught himself to write left handed he went on to have a highly successful career in local government culminating in being appointed Director of Finance of North Kesteven District Council in 1973, a post he held until retirement in 1988.

He founded Lincolnshire Chief Financial Officers Association, was Councillor for the Toller Ward between 1989 and 2011 and elected chairman of South Kesteven District Council in 2000. A longstanding member and past President of Sleaford Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award.

In addition, he was active in the community and trustee of many local charities, churchwarden of St Andrew’s, Billingborough for 43 years, clerk to Billingborough Parish Council for 55 years and a governor of three schools.

In recognition of his services to local government and the community of Lincolnshire he was awarded an MBE in 2003.

Among the many mourners were family members: Joyce Lovelock (wife), Dr and Mrs Anthony Wordley (daughter and son-in-law), Mr and Mrs Nicholas Kay (daughter and son-in-law), Mr and Mrs Richard Sidey (granddaughter and husband), Dr Jon Seddon and Dr Alice Wordley (granddaughter and partner), Mr and Mrs Brian Lovelock (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs Sarah Pheby (niece), Mr and; Mrs Lee Parkin (niece and husband), Misses Amber and Ella Parkin (great nieces) and Mr Luke Parkin (great nephew).
