Brigg Rotarians fund local range of good causes

Get your bets on! That was the message as Brigg Rotary Club held its annual race night at Elsham Golf Club recently.

Charity giving has once again been the theme for the group as 2015 ended and 2016 began.

The old year ended with members delivering 70 hampers in the community to those needing and appreciative of help at the festive time.

Organisations helping with the effort were Brigg Food Bank, Brigg and Kirton Children’s Services, Brigg United Churches and North Lincolnshire Child and Family Support Services.

The Rotary market stall at Brigg Christmas Fair raised £400.

Further charity involvement saw president Nick Wells present a cheque for £875 to host Lauren Alexander (picture above), during an inspirational visit to St Andrew’s Hospice to view its new facilities.

Early in the new year, a total of £1,340 was raised to provide essential items for families hit by flooding in the north west England of England.

Another initiative involving Rotary has been providing model interviews for Brigg Sixth Form College students preparing for university.

Looking ahead, a major event will be the Rotary District Disability Games at The Pods Leisure Centre on Sunday, April 17, when Brigg will be sending a strong team to compete.

A Rotary dinner and auction of promises is being held on Thursday, April 21, again to boost the coffers of the Rotary Charities Fund.
