Like all charitable groups, they have been deeply affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which has put paid to their usual events.

So, to help put some pounds back into the charity pot, members took on personal challenges through a sponsored event.

One group took on a ‘five peak challenge’ heading out to Nettleton in a circular route up Mansgate Hill.

Group member and Lions secretary Steven Gaughan said: “It is the same ‘peak’ we are just doing it five times.”

Others took a more sedate work with their four-legged friends, while Mike Galligan, Gordon Rogers and Harry Simpson made productive use of their time.

Sunday saw more Lions take to the roads, with one member going that bit further.

Ryan Farrow took on a half marathon, which saw his sponsorship pledges hit a four figure sum.

Caistor president Andy Gutherson said it was great to see his fellow Lions members come together in this way, something that had been missing over the past few months.

“Through the winter, the more long term impact of Covid will be felt and we want to be able to help respond to that, so thanks go to everyone who has sponsored the Lions for their personal challenges.”

The Lions are responsible for a number of high-profile annual events in the town, all of which have this year been hit by the pandemic.

Earlier this year, their popular beer festival went ‘virtual’, which raised around £2,000, a fifth of the usual amount.

However, not everything can be done that way.

Andy said: “Looking ahead, we have already made the decision to cancel our Victorian Christmas Market.

“However, we are looking in to how we can do our Santa sleigh in a Covid-safe way.”
