Family appeals for help to bring grandma stuck in Barbados hospital home

Lynda Rogers booked a Caribbean cruise.with a friend to mark the milestone birthday and they set sail on October 29.

However, five days into her trip she developed a nasty gallbladder infection, resulting in her bowels stopping working and putting her liver was under massive stress.

The treatment Lynda received on the ship kept her out of danger until they reached land in the port of Barbados.

She was taken to the public hospital in Barbados - alone, scared, in pain and extremely vulnerable.

Launching a Gofundme appeal for £10,000 to bring her home, her grandson Ryan Hurt explained for the first three days she received no food, no fluids and more importantly, no treatment, until her daughter, Nicky flew out from UK to be with her.

He said: "Nicky managed to move her mum to a ward where she finally started treatment, including IV antibiotics for seven days.

"Nicky then took over everything to do with paperwork and finances. This is when she found there had been complications with the travel insurance and they were not willing to cover her treatment or travel costs.

"All expenses are now down to her daughter - £8,000 for the ship's medical bill and £3,000 ongoing bill for the hospital, flights and accommodation.

"Other expenses are mounting up day by day for Lynda and her daughter, who are still stuck in the Barbados hospital desperately trying to get home.

"Lynda is sitting in the hospital with a tiny photo of her little dog and companion, Billie, praying everyday to get home to him.

"A retired pensioner, Lynda has worked all her life but unfortunately has no savings to cover all these costs. They just want to get home.

"Any help would be greatly appreciated."
