Gainsborough Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board approves almost £300,000 of early investment

Thirteen projects have been given the go-ahead for Gainsborough unlocking almost £300,000 of investment.

The funding, awarded through the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, will support communities, improve public spaces, increase opportunities for young people and strengthen safety across the town.

Pride in Place is a government funding programme that gives local communities a stronger say in how investment is spent in their areas.

As previously reported, Gainsborough West has been ear-marked £20m over ten years. The Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board decides how this funding will be spent based on extensive community engagement, along with government guidance.

The first round of projects approved include community grants to help local groups deliver neighbourhood priorities; youth swimming and cycle training to support activity, confidence and skills; improvements at Queensfield, Richmond Park and the green space near Central Station; new event infrastructure; funding of vehicle to support foodbank operations; town-centre safety measures and continuation of a programme to raise aspiration for secondary school pupils across Gainsborough.

The agreed package includes £179,945 of revenue funding and £114,641 of capital investment. The projects have been selected to deliver early, visible benefits for local people while longer-term proposals continue to be developed through the wider Gainsborough programme

Co-chairs of the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, Steve Gelder and Ben Rollet, said: “This early investment turns local priorities into practical action. They combine support for residents and community organisations with improvements to public spaces, opportunities for young people and measures that will help people feel safer and more connected to the town.”

The investment forms part of the Pride in Place approach, which focuses on locally led action to improve places, support residents and help communities build on existing strengths.
