Hospice Friends enter 10th fundraising year

A fundraising group is hoping to make its 10th year an extra special one to help support the county's only children's hospice.

Since its formation in 2007, Market Rasen Friends of St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice has raised more than £34,000.

Spearheaded by Market Rasen businesswoman Joyce Rhodes and the late Margaret Stamp, the group has gone from strength to strength.

Last year saw a number of fundraising events – from a collection at the racecourse to an evening of magic – all helping to raise more than £4,000.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support and hope we can continue to help the hospice in this way,” said chairman Richard Brewis, whose son David added more than £500 to last year’s total by doing the Peak District Six Dales Marathon Walk.

The group has already worked out its programme of events for the coming year, starting with ‘An Evening of Dining’ at The Advocate Arms in Market Rasen on Sunday, January 31.

In a new venture, there will be an evening of bingo in Middle Rasen Village Hall on Saturday, February 27, with eyes down at 7pm.

Group secretary Joyce Rhodes will be hosting a coffee morning at her home on April 16, as well as a strawberry evening in July, something that has become a popular event in the group’s fundraising year.

Hospice fundraiser ZaZa Warren has been working with the group over the last year and has been delighted with the support.

“It is great fun working with the friends group and their positive attitude in supporting the hospice,” she said.

“The hospice relies on the generosity of people to meet its running costs and we couldn’t do it without people like Richard and his fellow friends organising events such as these.

“It’s people like this that keep us going.

“Thank you to them all and to everyone who has supported them over the years and those who will support future events.

“I am really looking forward to this year’s events and hope we can make their 10th year extra special.”
