Peter Harrold was co-opted on to the council at last week’s meeting to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Martin Harvey earlier this year.

The semi-retired financial adviser has lived in the Market Rasen area for the last four years.

During that time, he has already got involved in the local community, most recently working with the town partnership.

Mr Harrold said: “ I suppose my philosophy, if you like, is out of action rather than words; I like to try and get things done.

“Last year and this year, I got involved with putting the hanging baskets up in the town.

“My belief is the more you put into the community, the more you get out.

“I would like to be involved in making a difference, if I can, to the town.”

Mr Harrold lived at Welton for 15 years, where he served on the parish council and organised the annual May fair.

He is also a keen Rotarian and is involved with the Lincoln Colonia Club, where was instrumental in setting up the popular annual Santa run and the sausage festival.

Town mayor, John Matthews said, as chairman, he was pleased to welcome Mr Harrold to the town council.

He continued: “Peter has certainly put his hand up and joined in with activities going.

“He not only instigated the hanging baskets in town, but has also given his time to make sure they are maintained.

“Peter has been a strong supporter within the Town Partnership group and I am sure will make valuable contributions to the council in months to come.”

Hearing of his co-option, Mr Harrold said: “All I can add is that I tend to be disruptive, but in a positive way!”

• The town council now has another vacancy to fill, following the resignation of Alan Lakeman.

The vacancy will be advertised and the aim is to fill the position by co-option at the October town council meeting, if an election isn’t called.

To serve as a councillor, certain criteria needs to be met.

This includes being over the age of 18; having lived in the ward of Market Rasen, or within three miles of its boundary for at least a year; or having worked within the ward for at least a year.

Expression of interest forms are available from the town clerk by emailing [email protected], or by phoning 01673 842479, and must be returned by October 1.

Council chairman, John Matthews said: “We have sadly accepted Alan’s resignation, due to ill health, and thank him for his service on the council.”
