Proud Nellie celebrates 100th birthday at Mablethorpe care home

A proud resident of a care home in Mablethorpe has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Great-great grandmother Nellie Cattell, who hails from the Midlands, has been at the Orchard House home on Grosvenor Road for two years, having previously lived in a bungalow at Ruskington, near Sleaford.

She was married to husband Ron, who she met when they were only 14 years old as the Second World War broke out. They had four children – sons Stephen and Andrew, and daughters Judith and Jane. Nellie worked as a tailoress and later as a cake decorator.

Orchard House organised a surprise private party for Nellie’s 100th in one of the home’s lounges. All her family members were there, including her latest great-great grandchild, who is only one month old.

The home says Nellie is a fine example of its ethos, which is to “provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that maintains residents’ independence as much as possible”.
