'Quarry has been extracting chalk for over 25 years': Lincolnshire concrete supplier applies to continue its operation

A Lincolnshire concrete supplier has applied retrospectively to continue its operation.

Welton Aggregates has applied retrospectively to Lincolnshire County Council to replace its former concrete batching plant at Welton Quarry, Bluestone Heath Road, Welton Le Marsh.

The quarry has been extracting chalk for more than 25 years and produces a supply of ready mix concrete.

The site is located between the villages of Welton Le Marsh and Skendleby in East Lindsey.

The company said that the old concrete batching plant had “exceeded its lifespan” and needed to be replaced.

Welton Aggregates has been required to retrospectively submit an application to the county council to enable the facility to continue to operate.

The company said the facility has the capacity to produce 250 tonnes of Ready-Mix Concrete per day.

In a report, Welton Aggregates said: “The existing quarry has been extracting chalk for over 25 years and is now established as an important supplier of chalk products and recycled aggregates throughout Lincolnshire and neighbouring areas.

“A natural expansion of the core business is the production and supply of ready mix concrete to meet a growing demand.

“Accordingly, this planning application to Lincolnshire County Council, as the appropriate mineral planning authority was required for this application to regularise the situation of the replacement of the old Concrete Batching Plant.

“Welton Aggregates Ltd currently supplies ready mix concrete to their increasing customer base throughout Lincolnshire from existing production facilities at Louth and Hibaldstow.

“These proposals will allow Welton Quarry to continue to supply customers throughout Lincolnshire and East Lindsey whilst reducing vehicle emissions due to the greatly reduced haulage requirements.”

The firm said that the plant would operate from 7am until 7pm, Monday to Friday, and between 7am and 1pm on Saturdays.

The facility will not operate on Sundays or bank holidays, under the plans.

Lincolnshire County Council will consider the application and make a formal decision at a later date.
