'We are absolutely amazed': Wainfleet Young Farmers scoop top Community Spirit honour at national awards
A Wainfleet club has been left ‘absolutely amazed’ after being crowned runner-up in the Community Spirit Awards at the National Young Farmers Achiever Awards in Birmingham.
The prestigious event was held at The National Conference Centre in Birmingham and aims to encourage the next generation of young farmers.
Wainfleet Young Farmers Club is one of the smallest and youngest of the 16 clubs in Lincolnshire, having battled over the last couple of years to continue following recruitment struggles during covid and the loss of senior members.
"This award means so much to us and all our members, who are enthusiastic and willing to have a go at any opportunity that arises,” said club leader Clare Willoughby.

“We are thrilled that the club has been recognised at a national level and want to thank the local community for allowing us to work with them.
"We are pleased that our membership is growing and the club is flourishing and are excited to see what we can achieve this year!”
The club is open to members aged 10 - 28 and has a whole host of opportunities, not just the weekly meetings which range from fun nights such as bowling, crafts, to visits to local businesses and talks and training evenings.
There is a whole programme of competitions on offer including sports, public speaking and auctioneering, not to mention the prestigious County Rally – a big competition day with all the county clubs competing in around a 100 competitions from baking to arts and crafts, obstacle courses, car wheel changing to tug of war.
Additionally, there is a YFC travel programme and lots of opportunities to socialise and meet like minded people and make friends for life.
In the next few weeks the club is taking part in the County 10 pin bowling competition, having a sausage making evening, are decorating a Christmas tree at the Methodist Chapel and holding their main fundraiser for the year – a bingo night on Friday, December 5, at Friskney Village Hall.
New members are welcome and it is suggested anyone interested should take a look at their social media pages or email [email protected].
