The initiative, known as Stewards of God, is rooted in the school's Christian vision of 'Encouraging each other, overflowing with hope'. It gives pupils the opportunity to develop leadership skills, discover their strengths and make a positive contribution to school life and the wider community.

Pupils secured their roles through a variety of selection processes, including written applications, interviews and presentations to their classmates, before being chosen through a democratic vote.

Roles include Eco Warriors, Language Ambassadors, Librarians, House Captains and Junior Online Safety Officers, giving pupils the chance to take responsibility for areas that reflect their interests and talents.

Joanne Sharples, Headteacher at St Thomas' CE Primary Academy, said: "It has been wonderful to see the children getting so excited about these new responsibilities. They are very keen and ready to play their part and be positive role models in our school.

"This programme gives pupils the chance to discover what they're capable of and understand the difference they can make to others. We're incredibly proud of all our new leaders and can't wait to see what they achieve this year."

The pupils have already begun putting their new responsibilities into practice. Junior Online Safety Officers are taking part in specialist online training, while House Captains have taken on responsibility for managing house points. The newly elected Church School Council is also preparing to lead projects focused on justice and responsibility.

The Year 6 School Council Chairperson said: “I look forward to representing the pupils and making a difference.

"Being a Steward of God means a lot to all of us. We know that the badge is important because so many other pupils would have wanted to do the job, so we have to make the most of the chance.”

Gavin Booth, CEO of Infinity Academies Trust, added: “I’m really impressed with how enthusiastically the children at St Thomas’ have embraced their new responsibilities.

“Giving pupils a genuine voice and meaningful responsibilities helps them grow in confidence and develop skills that will stay with them well beyond primary school. This is a brilliant example of the school and Trust values being brought to life.”

St Thomas’ CE Primary Academy is holding Reception open events throughout the winter term for families looking for a primary school place. To find out more or book a tour, call 01205 362860 or visit www.stthomasacademy.co.uk.
