Police operation targets rural crime in Clowne and Whitwell

Officers joined forces with Notts Police and local gamekeepers to help prevent and target issues affecting the areas including wildlife, diesel thefts and metal thefts.

The operation, which ran during the evening on Monday 3rd June, involved teams carrying out patrols throughout the area and looking for suspicious activity.

During the evening a 20 year old man from Mansfield was stopped on Rowthorne Lane at Glapwell, and given a formal warning for possession of cannabis.

PC Garry Statham, of the Pleasley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, set up the campaign.

He said: “We have received concerns about issues around wildlife crime, hunting and damage to field, crops and fencing in the area, along with thefts of diesel, scrap and plant machinery.”

“Although overall crime in our area is reducing, we know that there are certain types of crime which are more common in more isolated areas and this operation gave us a chance work alongside local gamekeepers and Notts Police to target these issues.”

Plans are underway to carry out similar operations in the area in the future.
