Four community causes in Boston set to benefit from grant scheme

Four community causes in Boston are set to benefit from a grant scheme run by the town’s equivalent of a parish council.

The funds have been allocated to the quartet by the Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) through the first round of its Small Grant Scheme for 2026/27.

Through the scheme, a myriad of organisations can apply for up to £1,000 towards projects, equipment, activities, venue hire, insurance costs and promotional materials.

It is open to fully constituted Boston-based community groups, charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs) and social enterprises, delivering projects that benefit residents living within the borough’s town wards.

The latest beneficiaries are:

  • Boston Dancing Witches – a witch-themed dance troupe, promoting body positivity and mental health and wellbeing, while also raising funds for charity
  • Boston Original Band Initiative – a not-for-profit organisation aiming to re-invigorate the grassroots live music scene in Boston
  • Feathers Teens CIC – a group dedicated to alternatively educated teens affected by neurodivergence and mental health
  • Tonic Health – the operator of the Boston Youth Hub, in Pescod Hall

Ros Reynolds is a member of the Boston Dancing Witches. Of the funds, she said: “This will aid us to get better props, much-needed additions to help with our performance, and crafting items, so we can get more people on board as we continue raising funds for local charities.”

Coun Barrie Pierpoint, chairman of BTAC, said: “We are delighted to support such a diverse range of community projects through the first round of the BTAC Small Grant Scheme.

“The funding awarded will help local organisations deliver activities that benefit residents in many different ways, from creating opportunities for young people and supporting education to promoting arts, culture and community wellbeing.

“These grants demonstrate BTAC’s ongoing commitment to investing in the people and organisations that make a real difference in our town, helping to strengthen communities, bring residents together and enhance life across Boston's town wards.”

BTAC is funded through the Special Area Expense Account, which is collected alongside council tax.

It is responsible for a range of services and facilities across the town, including maintaining parks and open spaces, play areas, public toilets and supporting town events.

The committee also acts as a consultee on major developments affecting the town.
