Queues for milk at Caistor during big freeze

The worst blizzard since the great winter of 1947 hit in the February of 1979 isolating every town and village in the area.

Easterly winds whipped up snow drifts of up to ten feet deep in some places.

Vehicles were abandoned and police warned people to stay off the roads.

One casualty of the snow was milk deliveries were stopped.

In Caistor, farmer Robert Turner set up a milk stall and crowds turned out with bottles, pans and jugs to carry the milk home.
