Network Rail apologises for 'significant delays' in Boston

Network Rail has apologised for the disruption experienced by road and rail users in and around Boston before the weekend.
The traffic situation was so bad on Friday (November 21), Lincolnshire Police sent out an alert via Facebook.
It said: “There are significant delays to motorists in Boston after a broken-down freight train has made a railway crossing impassable.
“We received a call at 4.30pm today to report that barriers at the crossing near the town’s railway station were down.

“Sluice Bridge is believed to be passable but Sleaford Road is completely blocked, John Adams Way gridlocked and traffic is backed up to Fishtoft.
“Motorists should avoid the area if possible.”
Today, Network Rail attributed the problem to a fault with the signalling system.
A spokesman said: “We’re sorry for the disruption to some EMR services and local roads in Boston on Friday evening.
“A fault with the signalling system between Boston and Skegness brought trains to a halt. This included a freight train which was stopped in the station. The location of the train meant the level crossing could not be raised until the fault was fixed.
“Our teams worked to get services moving again as quickly as possible. Our team of engineers attended the site with the line reopening around 5.45pm.”
