X Box in good form ahead of home show

A local boxing club are putting a fine run of results together, ahead of their first ever show later this month.

X Box Boxing Academy, based on Claylands industrial estate, have won seven out of their opening bouts this season.

And the form of the youngsters involved bodes well for their first home show on Thursday 23rd January, less than a year since the club was relaunched at a new venue under a new name.

Lee Jones has won both of his two fights, including a victory at Doncaster Dome, where team-mate Nathan Keogh also fought but lost.

Richard Herrick lost his two opening bouts of the season, but bounced back with a win at the Newark Showground just before Christmas.

The club’s youngest boxer, 12-year-old Elliot Holloway has fought twice, winning once and losing a controversial decision at South Normanton.

He dominated his opponent, giving him a standing eight count and nearly stopping him, only to lose on the judges’ scorecards.

The gym’s first Polish fighter, Konrad Nowicki, had his debut fight at Clowne in December.

He got off to a winning start in club colours, beating a young opponent from Mansfield Bulls.

Declan Cairns was in action at Newark, and knocked out his opponent in the first round to take victory in emphatic style.

The X Box Academy’s first home show will be held at Stanley Street Sports and Social Club on 23rd January.

Anyone wanting to sponsore the event or provide raffle prizes can contact head coach Chris Boyle on 07886 255078 or email him at [email protected].

Tickets for the fight night will cost £10.
