Eastenders open up six point bowls league lead

Eastenders edged into a six point lead after the top two did battle in the Boston Indoor Bowls League's Orchard Health Group Division One.

They lead Carlton Road on shot difference before they met, but in a close contest Adrian Field, Colin Box and Paul Flatters won 16-13 and Tony Powell, Richard Vinter and Andrew Reeson succeeded 16-15.

Third-placed Holland Fen saw off the challenge of fourth-placed A40 on both rinks, Colin Palmer, George Hardstaff and Jim Gott (17-16) and Mick Tomlin (26-12) doing the damage to move into second.

Royal Mail did well to win two points from Jolly Farmers, Jo Sharp, Jill Smith and Keith Sharp winning 14-15 and Tom Richardson, for the Farmers, replying 16-14.

Punchbowlers took five points against Norprint as Dave Peacock, Steve Skelton and Ian Drury won 22-11 while Terry Dawson, Michael Goodison and Andrew Limb tied 19-19.

Invaders and Strollers shared the rink points but it was the Invaders who won the aggregate points thanks to Nathan Dunnington, Sandra Tebbs and Rod West (28-10).

In the T&B Containers Division Two, the leaders and the second team both dropped a point.

Leaders Red 5 faced Golfers, with Bill Hodges, Neil Owen and Bob Lody winning 23-6 but Colin Price, Howard Williams and Dave Fox level at 13-13.

Feathers, in second, were matched against Patriarchs and saw Yvonne Smith, Keith Posey and Ian Smith win 19-9 while Maureen Hunn, Dave Gill and Geoff Dawson tied 17-17 with Alan Bristow’s rink.

Breakaways shared the rink points with Boston Park, but a 27-16 success from skip Gordon Gallichan secured the extra points.

Autos and the Burtons also shared the rink points with Autos claiming the aggregate points when Sheila Skelton, Tom Freeston and Bernard Skelton succeeded 24-11.

Parthians’ Elaine Edmonds, Dale Sowter and Phil Markham secured the aggregate points against the Amateurs (25-4).

In the Cammacks Division Three, leaders Vikings tok maximum points from the Rileys as Skips Doug Staples and Keith Stones were successes 15-11 and 29-12.

Central could not close the gap down as they fell on both rinks to Highflyers, Ian Atkin and David May posting winning scorecards of 18-8 and 24-17.

At the bottom of the table, Nomads made no headway against U3, falling on both rinks to skips Peter Copeland and Richard Keeling (14-7) and (24-8).

Shipmates and Traders shared the rink points but Shipmates won the aggregate with a win of 15-12 for Pat Pitts, John Balderson and Ted Vere.

Dynamics, in fourth, just hung on to the aggregate points against the Fairways. Hazel Smith woin 11-18 but Dynamics’ Barry Beagles, Nigel Smith and John Davis replied 24-14.

Boston’s Top Club team had a very good result against Erewash and now face a tough game against Lincoln on the Boston green in the next round of the competition.
