Derby day home defeat by Cleethorpes for Gainsborough Trinity
Gainsborough Trinity fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Cleethorpes Town in the Lincolnshire derby on Bank Holiday Monday.
Trinity had returned to winning ways on Friday night with a hard earned 2-1 win at Ashton United, but on Monday three goals in 10 second half minutes took the game away from Russ Wilcox’s men, as Cleethorpes held on to top spot.

Boss Russ Wilcox said: “We’re not going to go and rip everything up because of a loss.
“Credit must go to Cleethorpes – but we have had a good honest chat in there as a group and we will go again.
“We have had a really good start, playing against a lot of the sides that finished in the top eight last season.”
In a game where kick off was delayed for 15 minutes as the skies over the Northolme emptied, both sides struggled to get into a rhythm in the first half.
The second half saw the visitors set about their work with more vigour and Josh Walker converted from close range to set Clee on their way.
Then Trinity failed to clear their lines, Walker reacting first to lash high past Robson before Billy Fewster made the game safe.
Attention now shifts to the FA Cup on Saturday, with Wilcox saying: “We will be trying to create more memories.”
“Sometimes you need a little luck with the draw – but we have drawn games with Hartlepool and Boston in the last couple of years and played them at their place.
“So credit must go to the group of lads out there that have taken us on these journeys.”
Sherwood Colliery lay in wait on Saturday, as eight league games in 23 days, turns to one league fixture in 12 days, Trinity next in league action on 12th September when they face Avro at home.
