Horncastle in cup quarter-finals defeat
Horncastle Town’s joint interim-manager Lewis Burchnall says the manner of Saturday’s Supplementary Cup quarter-final defeat to Louth Town Reserves left the Wongers frustrated they couldn’t progress further in the competition.
The 1-0 loss was settled by Josh Lambert’s 63rd minute winner as Horncastle couldn’t follow up the previous week’s 4-3 win at Sleaford with another win, Louth progressing to the semi-finals.

And as his side prepared for Wednesday’s home league game with Spilsby Town, played after this week’s News went to press, Burchnall reflected on Saturday’s defeat.
He said: “We’re obviously disappointed with the result but especially with the manner of the defeat.
"The game was so flat and we didn’t do enough to try to change that. Considering it was a cup quarter-final and a local derby it’s fair to say it wasn’t much of a spectacle - both teams just drifted through the game with hardly any clear chances or incidents of note.
"It had the look of a game that would be settled by a single goal and that turned out to be the case. We had a couple of headed opportunities which maybe go in on another day but we can’t argue with the outcome.
“We’ve got another derby to come with Spilsby Town at home on Wednesday night. It’s important for us to show ourselves and the supporters that Saturday was just an off-day and we can finish the league season strongly.”
Following the game with Spilsby, Horncastle have a free weekend before they then host Nettleham on Saturday, April 11.
They’ll then close out the season firstly with a home game against Skegness Town Reserves on Wednesday, April 11, another home clash with Barton Rovers Reserves on April 22, then the return game with Skegness on April 29 – all three of the final games being midweek matches.
