Keeper stars in narrow Trinity loss

Ravas, signed on loan for a month from Derby County, was beaten just once as Trinity lost 1-0 at Stockport County.

Ravas made a good early save to deny Sam Walker before County took the lead when Ben McKenna’s 55th-minute cross was touched in by Jason Oswell, via the post.

County substitute Tom Walker hit the post as Trinity, who had been content to soak up pressure, were forced to come out in search of an equaliser.

Ravas again saved well to deny another substitute, Sam Stephenson, and the home side were unlucky when the woodwork blocked Chris Smalley’s header.

The new keeper excelled in the last minute as he held on to a Sam Minihan effort.

Manager Dave Frecklington said: “I first saw him at Boston.

“He is a better keeper now for being at a Championship club.

“We are hoping his presence and playing at this level before will help us.

“We are hoping it will be a successful month for us.”

Talking about the defeat, he added: “We were excellent in terms of workrate, effort, commitment and shape.

“It is a difficult place to come and play and you are going to have to concede possession, but with the amount of goals we had been leaking and errors we had been making the players could not have given anymore.

“Their attitude and application was good. They have given us absolutely everything.

“It is just a disappointing goal to concede. We said at half-time we needed to stop crosses coming into the box, but he has got in too easy.

“We did not apply any pressure on the ball into the box, but even then it has gone off the post and in.

“We changed our shape to try to get back into it.

“They were then going to pick us off and they hit the bar a couple of times, but you expect that if you are chasing the game.

“We are a nearly team at the minute.”
