Dinnington Town had to make do without the majority of their senior players, when a strong-looking Rotherham United side visited on Saturday.

With a host of regulars out of the country on a stag-do, Dinnington hosted a Millers team that included two transfer listed senior players, in Lionel Ainsworth and Kayode Odejayi.

And it was the Rotherham outfit who ran out winners, albeit by a narrow 4-2 scoreline.

Town pressed forward looking for the equaliser but were caught out when Rotherham swiftly counter attacked and Ainsworth directed an accurate shot out of the reach of home keeper Ledger.

Town had a good chance to reduce the arrears on 44 minutes when a well worked freekick resulted in Greg Taylor’s powerful header being tipped over the bar.

Rotherham quickly made Town pay for this miss by sweeping down the pitch and Odejayi scored in an unmarked position at the far post.
