Trinity strengthen squad after their great escape

Frecklington and his assistant, Terry Fleming, have already persuaded four players to remain with the Holy Blues.

Nathan Jarman, Chris Salt, Michael Jacklin and Thomas Davie put pen to paper last week.

Three players have also left at the end of loan periods — Darnelle Bailey-King (Rotherham United) Callum Chippendale (who has now been released by his parent club, Boston United) and Chib Chilaka (Harrogate Town).

Frecklington tweeted: “Busy week but delighted with the business we’ve done so far.

“Two new very good exciting prospects have agreed one-year contracts.”

Club captain Jarman showed his commitment to the club by agreeing a reduced-terms deal to stay at the club.

The front man vowed to find his form in front of goal next season, despite having more substantial offer from elsewhere in National League North.

The 30-year-old lost his place in the team as the goals dried up, but forced his way back into the side towards the end of the season.

Jarman, who will remain captain, scored the goals that proved crucial in Trinity’s survival fight — striking in the 1-0 win over Salford City and in the 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers.

Defensive lynchpins Salt and Jacklin joined late in the season, but impressed as part of a resilient rearguard that saw the Holy Blues keep vital clean sheets against two teams in contention for the play-offs — Salford City and Brackley Town — and avoid a f irst-ever relegation.

Salt, who initially signed a short-term deal from Stamford, scored on the final day of the season in the defeat at FC United of Manchester.

Jacklin was Frecklington’s first signing in February.

Utility man Davie has extended his stay at the club he calls home after initially re-signing from Bradford Park Avenue.

He said the new management team had brought stability.
