White knight an inspiration between the sticks

Trinity stopper Jason White became the club’s sixth regular goalkeeper this season when joining from Shirebrook Town in March, but his contribution may well be remembered more than his predecessors.

White was in inspirational form as he kept a clean sheet on Sunday as FC Halifax Town pushed desperately for an equaliser. The former Mansfield Town goalkeeper pulled off two excellent saves late on to erase the memory of his first leg blunder which gifted Halifax an equaliser.

He said: “It was just one of them things at our place, the ball came rolling back and it just got stuck in the sand as I kicked it.”

“But today, the lads and the fans were brilliant.”

“What I had to do I think I did quite comfortably; we did have a couple of scares where they (Halifax) did hit the bar and the post but apart from that I think we looked comfortable.”

“The surroundings helped us today, it got us up for the game and it felt like a semi-final.”

“I’ve come in when the team have got a bit of a head of steam up and I’ve been able to continue that.”

“The lads have been magnificent, they have worked their socks off and it has been a pleasure to be part of Gainsborough Trinity.”
