Youngster’s dream trip to the ‘home of golf’

A BUDDING Worksop golfer has enjoyed a memorable trip to the newly styled ‘Home of Golf’.

Joseph Vanaman won the special travel prize at the Worksop Guardian organised Lee Westwood Junior Championship in July. The youngster’s name was drawn out of the hat by Westwood himself, at the conclusion of the tournament at Worksop Golf Club.

Joseph and dad John were treated to flights, a hotel stay and two rounds of golf in Northern Ireland, the home of The Open champion Darren Clarke and US Open Rory McIlroy.

The pair enjoyed visits to Royal Belfast Golf Club and Carnalea Golf Club, on the North Down coast.

John told the Guardian: “The flights and hotel stay were perfect, we were well looked after and had an amazing time.”

“We will definitely return with the family and spend more time in the city and on the golf course.”

“It was a memorable occasion.”

The prize was supported by Tourism Ireland and bmibaby.
