Horncastle bowlers find rivals Beccles too strong

Mary Johnson, Jayne Taplin, Judith Moody and Olive Wells qualified for the last 16 play-off of the Ladies’ Rinks event, held in Leicestershire on Saturday.

Unfortunately, it was not to be when the ladies came up a very strong Beccles team.

After a hard-fought game they were defeated 19-13 in their first match.

The club is exceptionally proud of the ladies for having made the final 16, also representing the club in an exceptional manner.

As the season reaches its business end, there will be plenty more action for Horncastle IBC members.

The club will also be represented in the LIBA County semi-finals, where the Men’s Triples will compete at Stamford on Saturday.

Paul Bark, Keith Jackman and Phil Boulton will play Lincoln.

On Tuesday Paul Bark and Judith Moody will play a Mixed Pairs team from Lincoln in Louth.

In the penultimate LIBA Men’s game at home against Skegness, Horncastle won by 109 shots to 87.

Horncastle won by 14 points to 4, having won on three rinks and lost on two rinks.

Rink scores: J. Bontoft lost 18-19; T. Nunn won 26-5; J. Day won 30-13; G. Lancaster won 18-16; W. Walmsley lost 17-24.

In the final LIBA Men’s over 60s match of the season, the team overtook opponents Skegness to head the division.

Having won the away match by 103 shots to 80 and picking up 16 of the 18 points on offer the team are now guaranteed promotion to Division One for the 2018-2109 season.
