The men’s fours was a close contest and only swung the way of Jonathan Darley, Mike Leverton, and Simon and Russ Dent when they scored four successive singles to open a 18-13 lead before holding out to beat Horace Cope, Tony Willoughby, Alan Watson and John Welsh 19-15.

The ladies’ open singles was equally absorbing as Rachael Stanley fought back from 12-4 down to lead Sylvia Stainton 14-12 and then 20-15.

But needing just one shot for victory she couldn’t finish it off as Sylvia hit back to score two, one and three in successive ends to pinch the win.

Sylvia had earlier lost 21-13 to Gill Leverton in the ladies’ over 55 singles.

Lu Woods, Val Sherry and Sue Page romped home in the ladies’ triples, 30-6 winners against Sylvia Woodforth, Sue Gurbutt and Bernice Culham, while Alan Dent Junior was in top form in the two-bowl open singles to beat Allan Dent Senior 21-6.

Young Alan also got the better of his father when teaming up with Val Sherry in the mixed pairs for a 25-14 win over Allan and Sue Page.

Alan Junior was not so lucky in the mixed triples alongside Mike and Gill Leverton as they lost 19-13 to Harry Putland, Pam Cowling and Tony Willoughby.

Tony collected another trophy for the men’s over 60s singles by beating Dave Roper 21-10 after fighting back from 9-7 down.

Jonathan Darley and Dave Evans took the men’s pairs with a fine 19-11 win over Horace Cope and Andy Leggett, while the men’s triples went to Allan Dent (senior), John Welsh and Colin Matthews after a 17-9 win over Simon Reeson, Keith Greenhill and Mark Freemantle.

The Maiden Trophy, played as an open pairs, for members who had not won a competition over the past 10 years, went to Paul Hayman and Tony Powell who beat Noel and June Brougham 23-14.

Trophy presentations take place on Saturday, May 14 from 7pm. Radio Lincolnshire sports presenter Rob Makepeace will be the guest.
