Louth Golf Club: Eileen claims the Valentine's Day honours

There was an impressive turnout of ladies as Louth Golf Club staged a Valentine's Day competition last week.

The weather was glorious and the course was in excellent condition for the event which was won by Eileen Ballard who finished clear with a total of 33 points.

A close scrap developed for the other placings with just one point separating the next four positions.

Elaine Blyth took second place on countback with 30 points from third-placed Maureen Barnes who also needed countback to secure third place from Linda West. Annette Taylor completed the top five with 29 points.

Pam Shepherd was nearest-the-pin-in-three on the third hole, and Annette Taylor won the longest putt prize on the 18th.

* The men’s section has held two rounds of the winter league with S. Andrews and S. Hempshall topping the overall leaderboard from closes challengers A. Williams and M. Mullenger.

P. Stocks and M. Holdsworth lie in third place from T. Griffiths and N. Montgomery in fourth, and C. Trestrail and M. Brader in fifth position.

The next round of the Men’s Winter League will be played on Sunday.
