The 40-year-old heating engineer from Barlborough ran the famous event in just two hours 32 minutes, crossing the line in 49th place.

Lowe admitted he was delighted with the result, and a finishing time just 120 seconds shy of his target.

“I’m very pleased, it’s taken a lot of training and I was aiming for the top 100 and a time of two hours 30, so to get 49th and just two minutes short is brilliant.”

Lowe had previously completed the marathon distance just once, but has tasted success in shorter distanced races this year.

“I won the Grindleford Gallop and the Dronfield 10k this year,” he explained.

“And next for me is the Sheffield Half in three weeks, although London took everything out of me and I’ll need two or three weeks to recover.”
