Hickman once again encountered problems at Silverstone in the previous round.

Commenting on those frustrations, he said: “With regards to my weekend, we had made every possibly change you can think of but the feeling with the bike was still the same.

“The tyre change for 2020 has really hit us and the bike hard.

“With the amount of changes we’ve made, it’s hard to know what else we can do and all the other BMW riders seem to be in the same position.”

Looking at the results sheets from Silverstone, the majority of the BMW riders recorded results of 10th and below in the three races which does point to an issue of some sort.

Smiths Racing has been working hard over the last two weeks to overcome the issue and as the weekend unfolds at Oulton Park they will be able to judge if they have made progress.

The British Superbikes timetable begins on Friday for the Lincolnshire rider.

Action begins with free practice at 3.20pm.

On Saturday a second free practice session gets underway at 9.15am.
