Hickman was disappointed with his results and said: “It was not the weekend we had hoped for with the Global Robots Ltd Smiths Racing BMW.

“It’s safe to say it’s been a bit of a tough weekend.

“Two crashes in practice and qualifying didn’t help and then during the races there were certain areas where the others had an edge, especially in the final sector on the brakes.

“Still it’s been mega to get the first round and some points under our belts.”

The 2.9-mile Snetterton circuit has two long, fast straights.

And as he holds the title of the fastest road racer in the world, Hickman should feel very much at home on the Norfolk circuit.

The timetable for the British Superbike championship begins on Friday.

There will be a free practice session beginning at 3.10pm.

On Saturday Hickman will take part in more free practice from 10.10am.

This will be followed by qualifying at 1.20pm.

Race one - a 14-lap affair - will get underway at 4.15pm.

Action reached a climax on Sunday.

Following the warm-up at 9.45am, race two - which will be 16 laps- begins at 1.30pm.

The final race of the weekend wil be underway from 4.30pm.

This will be another 16-lap affair for Hickman to compete in.
