This in turn fetched Silvester and Sam Laffins off, ending their races earlier than hoped.

“I was absolutely gutted to end such a positive weekend this way,” Silvester explained.

“Although feel very lucky that Adam, Sam and myself were able to walk away from what could have been much worse.

“Let’s hope for better things this weekend.”

The Superstock 600 timetable sees free practice begin on Friday, at 11.20am and 4.05pm.

On Saturday Silvester will take part in qualifying from 12.10pm.

Sunday’s warm-up begins at 10.02am with the 12-lap race underay at 10.40pm.

The Donington weekend had started very well for Silvester as he was inside the top 10 throughout free practice and qualified in fifth place for a second row start to Sunday’s 20 lap race.

As the lights went out Silvester got away well; running within a large group of riders. But on the second lap he ran off the track and rejoined down in 11th position where he had to try to regain his former position.

He made it through to eighth place and was again riding within a group of six riders when Hartgrove crashed right in his path, which in turn fetched Silvester and Laffins off.

After the event, Silvester said: “After qualifying well, I felt I had the race pace to run with the guys I had around me and I got away to a decent start and held sixth until the first entry of the final chicane; I couldn’t get the bike stopped to be able to tip in behind the three riders in front, so I had to bailout, dropping me back to 11th.

“I got back up to eighth place and felt very comfortable, then unfortunately got tangled up while racing closely in a group.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t produce a result reflecting our efforts this weekend.”
